Ruud Rulkens (1966) studied polymer chemistry at the Rheinisch Westfälisch Technische Hochschule (RWTH) in Aachen, Germany, where he obtained his Diplom degree in Technical Chemistry. He obtained his PhD degree in Physical Chemistry with Prof. G. Wegner at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research in Mainz, Germany, on poly-para-phenylene based polyelectrolytes. In 1997 he joined DSM, where he since his appointment works in the field of polyamide research. Ruud Rulkens is co-author of 26 publications and 30 filed patents. His expertise is on the combination of chemistry with technology and material science and he obtained several internal DSM innovation awards. Since 2011, Ruud has been a lecturer at RWTH Aachen I and member of the Expert advisory board “textiles” where he is a part-time scientist since 2016 in the area of expertise Polycondensation Chemistry.
