Rolduc Abbey in Kerkrade is one of the most important monuments in the Netherlands. It is the largest abbey complex in Western Europe and one of the Dutch UNESCO Top 100 monuments. The abbey’s rich history dates back more than 900 years. Nowadays, the monumental complex has many different roles. Rolduc Abbey hosts a hotel with 150 double rooms and Conference Center Rolduc, with several lecture rooms, and an aula for 400 persons.
The relaxed ambiance of the abbey, with a 4 km2 abbey park, fine restaurants and historical wine cellars, is inviting for stimulating discussions.
Rolduc Abbey is situated directly at the German border and only a short distance away from Belgium. Cities dating back to roman times like Maastricht, Aachen (city of Charlemagne) and Liege are less than a 30-minute drive away.
Not far from the abbey, you can discover beautiful nature reserves by foot or by bicycle, in the Dutch marlstone hills day-trips to protected National Parks like the German Eifel Mountains and the Belgian Ardennes mountains, all within 50 km, are perfect for post-conference tours.
Within the abbey you mainly enjoy peace and quietness, which suites this location very well. Most of all, don’t forget to make a historical abbey tour and visit the unique rococo library or the medieval abbey church.

The Organizing Committee of the Brightlands Rolduc Conference has made a group reservation for hotel rooms in Rolduc Abbey from 08-11 September 2019. For this reason reservation via the Rolduc booking site is not possible. The Rolduc Abbey Hotel has available 150 double rooms (85 Comfort Rooms and 65 Standard Rooms with shared shower facilities). WiFi is available in all rooms. Breakfast is included. Free private parking is available, just outside the abbey wall.

Some GPS systems do not find the Heyendallaan in the abbey park; instead search for: Rolduckerstraat. This street connects Rolduc Abbey with the center of Kerkrade.
The main international airport in The Netherlands is Amsterdam (Schiphol, 200 km) www.schiphol.nl/en/. At the airport you can take the Intercity train to Kerkrade. Other nearby international airports are Brussels (B, 100 km) www.brusselsairport.nl, Düsseldorf (D, 90 km) www.dus.com/en, and Cologne (D, 80 km) www.cologne-bonn-airport.com/en.html, all connected via Intercity trains with Herzogenrath (D) or Aachen (D).
From there a taxi may take you to the conference center. Nearby domestic airports with only charter flights are Maastricht (NL, 25 km), Liege (B, 40 km), Weeze (D, 75 km), and Eindhoven (NL, 85 km). Airport Weeze does not have a train connection. Liege has a train connection via Maastricht.
The Kerkrade and Herzogenrath (D) railway stations are both only 2 km away from Rolduc Abbey. If you fly to Amsterdam the most convenient way to Kerkrade is to travel by Intercity train via Heerlen to Kerkrade. Travel to Herzogenrath station. From there take a taxi to Rolduc Abbey.
Travel via Liege to Aachen and then to Herzogenrath station.
Rolduc Abbey is only 4 km away from the Dutch Highway A76, that connects the German highways at Aachener Kreuz with the Dutch and Belgian highways at Kerensheide junction.
Take Highway A2 in the direction of Maastricht/Heerlen. From Kerensheide junction follow the direction of Heerlen/Aken (A76). At Ten Esschen junction choose the direction of Kerkrade (A76) and from Bocholtz junction the N281. Take exit Kerkrade. Follow signs towards Kerkrade and then follow the brown signs “Rolduc”.
After the border Aachen/Heerlen (A4/A76) follow Kerkrade (N281) at Bocholtz junction. Take the exit Kerkrade, follow “Kerkrade” and subsequently the brown signs “Rolduc”.
